International Day @ Learning Home

International Day @ Learning Home

On September 28th, Learning Home held its annual International Day celebration.

International Day is a way for parents, students, staff and teachers to interact and see just how many countries come together to make up this fantastic school. It is also a great way to introduce out students to other cultures from around the world and what they represent.

We have students from 13 different countries:

Thailand
U.S.A.
France
Indonesia
Singapore
Syria
China
England
Austria
Japan
India
Canada
Australia

Parents are asked to bring their child to school in traditional dress from their home country. They are also asked to bring a traditional dish. And boy did we have a very nice, eclectic mix of food for the day!

The first activity was Circle Time -- and all of the parents were welcome!

Singing Wind the Bobbin Up!

The Itsy Bitsy Spider.

The kids had a quick snack time with their parents and then we moved onto the modelling. Every student presented themselves in their traditional outfit and "walked the catwalk" for pictures. We drilled every class beforehand so most of the kids were well-prepared :)

Little Leia giving us her "wai".

Very nicely done, Nova!

Devina looks beautiful!

Rima showing everyone how to "walk the walk."

I think Kieran is trying to show us where Japan is :)

After the modelling everyone moved onto colouring their national flag. Some flags were easy (Japan, Indonesia), but some were a bit of a challenge (USA, England).

The kids are getting started!

Mr. Bomb finished his flag and he's ecstatic!

WunJin and Samir working hard on their flag.

When they finished their flag, they moved right along to a map of their country. They got to see how their country is shaped as well as that of other countries.

After the colouring came time to eat! We feasted on dishes from every country. There was so much food and dessert to go around; everyone finished the morning with a more-than-full tummy. The parents and staff were all very impressed at the preparation and attention taken with each dish. Everything truly was delicious.

And in the end, we were very satisfied and ready for a nice nap, like our little guy Ethan here:

Thanks for reading. International Day was a very colourful, fun and educational event that everyone clearly enjoyed.

Halloween @ Learning Home

K2 and K3 students preparing for trick or treating.

Every year, Learning Home International has a big, boisterous, all-day Halloween celebration. This year was no exception!

We can't forget the Halloween dancing!
All of the kids and teachers dressed up in their best costumes and joined the fun. It all started with Circle Time where we were joined by Teacher Kayne (aka Edward the Vampire) and his smooth-sounding guitar.

Hey, that vampire can play guitar!

What are you supposed to be?!

Even Superman made an appearance!

Did I arrive on time?
And Kamen Rider!

No one ever thought Kamen Rider could be so cute.

Of course Halloween wouldn't be fun without some delicious foods that scare the pants off of you! Cooking Class was next, where the kids had the opportunity to make the all-time Halloween favorite: Sausage mummies!

Ooooooh...ahhhhhhh...

Even Batman cooks!

After Cooking Class we played two games: Mr. Skeleton and The Tickle Monsteeeeer! Mr. Skeleton teaches the kids about the human body and how our bones are all connected. They enjoyed figuring how everything came together -- like a puzzle!

The neck bone's connected to the ____ bone.

Where does it go, Nicky?

Hmm, how to get this right...?

The Tickle Monster game had the kids hootin' and hollerin'! This game has the kids match 4 different Halloween characters (witch, ghost, etc) from 4 different corners of the room. The kids must match the characters while avoiding the horrible Tickle Monsteeeer!!

Run, run, run!

Find the black cat!

Lunch time followed...and before we could look twice it was time to Trick or Treat!!!

Let's do this.

Learning Home is located on the 8th floor of the Trinity Building, just down Silom Soi 5 or Narathiwas Soi 3. The building is a large condo complex and shopping mall, along with a food court, a hotel and a few restaurants. The kids had the fantastic fortune this year of trick or treating to numerous businesses around the property. And boy were their bags FULL!

Overwhelmed with candy :)

Forward ho!

Last up was Piñata Time! Every year we make a Halloween piñata and have the kids take a swing at it. They can't resist the candy surprise!!

...and you have to do it blindfolded!

Great job, Schumi!

Overall, the day's activities were very fun and the kids were all smiles.

Learning Home observes both Thai and international holidays and events. We hold either half-day or all-day events where the children participate in creative and engaging activities that teach them both purpose and meaning.

Education is a path. Our staff and teachers are forgers of that path and it is our responsibility to make it worthwhile and productive.

We offer early learning for children between the ages of 1.5 and 6 years old. All classes are taught in English using an American-based, results-driven curriculum. With a cadre of qualified teachers and tightly supervised curricula, Learning Home provides exceptional education to prepare children for their first years of primary education.

Learning Home's mission is:

To provide excellent education to children and focus on the joy of learning from the start so children enjoy school and see learning as a fun and worthwhile activity. To give them the basics they need to be successful in life and to provide the best start to a bright future.

We have recently launched an all-new website to promote and provide useful information on our kindergarten: special classes, curriculum, pictures and even useful tips and advice on parenting and educating your children. Check it out: www.learninghomesilom.com.

Our approach to teaching and education is different. We believe that a fun, relaxed and safe environment is a vital conduit for properly educating a child. Children should not be threatened, bribed or forced to learn. Rather, they should be guided, shown and encouraged to participate in worthwhile activities that will ground them in the necessary basics to future learning and growth. This is Learning Home's method.

Learning Home's graduates move on to prestigious Thai and International schools with enthusiastic attitudes and a willingness to learn more. Graduates are well-versed in the basics of each of the following subjects:

Mathematics
Reading
Language
Writing
Science
Physical Education
Art
Cooking
Taekwondo
Manual Skills
English
Music
Home and personal skills
